“Mezio’s body of work with leading pediatric institutions demonstrates his ability to plan and design solutions that enable exceptional care delivery and support children and families,” said Mark Bultman, Principal and Healthcare Market Sector Leader at HGA. “He will leverage his insight and experience to further HGA’s national market strategy and ability to deliver innovative and beautiful projects for our current and future pediatric clients.”

Mezio has more than 20 years’ experience specializing in programming, planning, and designing a range of pediatric, women’s & children’s, and community healthcare facilities for some of the country’s most renowned institutions including Children’s Hospital Colorado, Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and Texas Children’s Hospital among others.

“I believe that design should be approached holistically between exterior and interior—integrating the two in a way that makes a positive impact on the environment and the people who experience it,” Mezio said. “Architects and designers are in a unique position to affect people’s lives, which is a responsibility that drives my work. As a parent to young children who have spent significant time receiving pediatric care, I often find myself consulting with my mini “Patient Focus Group” during the design process. I enjoy taking their unfiltered comments and perspectives into consideration as I strive to improve the patient experience! I am excited to join a team that places a premium value on improving health through thoughtful and informed design solutions that truly address the unique need of each community.”

As a thought leader, Mezio regularly presents and authors articles for industry conferences and publications. He is a member of the Pediatric Environment Network with the Center for Health Design and serves as a visiting critic at the University of Houston Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Texas A&M University School of Architecture. Mezio’s work has been recognized through various regional and national design awards such as ENR, Healthcare Design, IIDA and ASID. Mezio has a Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Houston and is a registered architect in Texas where he resides.
