The Brewery

New Branding, New Space

HGA collaborated with The Brewery on a full makeover of their space. While the brewpub was closed due to the pandemic, the company decided it was an ideal time for some changes and what began as a discussion around removing some built-in furniture and repainting a couple of rooms soon evolved into a complete renovation of the entire space. Our design team worked to refine the aesthetic, function, brand colors, and flow of the space to meet The Brewery’s, formerly known as Water Street Brewery’s, new service model.

The design intervention began with the removal of the existing large booths and the extensive trellises that filled the space and obscured views of much of the existing cream city brick.  These booths were then repurposed into banquette seating and reclad with a combination of leather and blue velvet fabric that better aligned with their new brand.

The front bar was also reimagined and reconfigured to improve circulation and connectivity and a second bar was added in the back room.  Each bar is clad with a combination of white oak that is clear coated on the face and stained black on the top.  A copper edge that references the large functioning brew tanks visible at restaurant’s entrance completes the bar. Additional copper and unique light fixtures are used to accentuate the three inset zones that serve as ordering stations. Pink mosaic tile was replaced with a combination of new dark tile and wood flooring.

In the center of the space, a custom designed piece of millwork houses hundreds of historic beer cans and features a pull-out DJ booth.  Historic beer memorabilia is strategically placed throughout the space in a way that doesn’t compete with the historic architecture and exposed cream city brick. The five spaces, including a pool room and lounge, are tied together with consistent elements. Each space has unique character that is created by bold and colorful stencils – including a custom hops themed design behind each bar.
