Promoting Healing While Optimizing
Operational Efficiencies
Through strategic and operational planning with an eye toward operational efficiency, HGA worked with SSM Dean to create solutions that doubled utilization goals in their outpatient services. HGA conducted a strategic, operational and facility review of the 60 clinics, which included a re-check of all current service lines and volumes to find operational efficiencies.
At SSM Dean, the planning focuses on a collaborative care team-based model that provides an open and flexible central work zone for the entire caregiver team. Use of an On-Stage/ On-Stage clinic module module layout removes physical barriers between patient and caregiver zones to improve real-time communication and collaboration amongst the team tremendously. Each clinic runs with rows of universal exam rooms acting as book ends with large, open collaborative work space in the center designed to give direct access to daylight and views throughout the clinic. Modular prefabricated work areas allow for ease of re-configuration as care practices evolve and processes change.
Placing the building along a prominent street edge gives SSM the maximum exposure and improves access for patients. The base of the building, where patients interact with the building the most, a warm palette of stone with accents of natural wood to create a sense of calm for patients. Continuing this therapeutic theme, access to daylight is highly emphasized throughout the building in patient and staff spaces creating an environment that is both compassionate and empathetic to the needs of all of the building’s users. The site is master planned to accept future growth in both clinic and administrative space for the health system.
