The HGA-designed Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum (JHHSM) broke ground in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on September 15. The new museum, expected to be complete in 2024, will establish a permanent museum campus for JHHSM and serve as a primary destination for interactive exhibits, educational programming, and special events in addition to offering flexible space for community use. The groundbreaking ceremony included gratitude and acknowledgment of the indigenous people who previously resided on the land. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the indigenous people who resided on the land for centuries.

California State University San Bernardino broke ground on the new HGA-designed Performing Arts Center on September 7. Located to the south of the existing performing arts building, the Center will create a new “front door” to the campus, showcasing a modern face to visitors and the community. The center will include teaching, rehearsal and performance spaces, and a 500-seat performing arts theater. Scheduled to open in the 2024-2025 school year, the theater will be the only one of its size and quality in the region, allowing the community to experience the highly acclaimed productions from student performers.

Dedications, Openings, and Ribbon Cuttings

Graco Inc., held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of their new, HGA-designed building on the Patrick J. McHale campus in Dayton, Minnesota on September 20. The state-of-the-art facility will expand the manufacturing company’s factory and office space. The new location will replace traditional energy consumption methods with solar energy.
“Graco will continue to invest in the communities and environments we live in,” said Angie Wordell, Executive Vice President of Operations. “We’ve chosen to invest in more sustainable energy because it’s the right thing to do for the environment, our communities, customers, employees and the business.”

Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute – Sacramento, California

On the campus of UC Davis Medical Center, the new Ernest E. Tschannen Eye Institute and Ambulatory Care Center expansion celebrated their ribbon cutting on September 17. Set to open later this year, the facilities are providing hope to the vision-impaired for sight restoration through advanced technology, pioneering research and some of the world’s best eye care clinicians. Designed by HGA, in partnership with design firm TEF, the project was delivered under a design-build model led by McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and supported by Vanir Construction Management.

The Minnesota Medal of Honor will educate and inspire future generations while honoring those who have served. HGA attended a public dedication ceremony for the memorial at the Capitol Mall in St. Paul, Minnesota, signifying the completion of the new memorial and honoring Medal of Honor recipients. The memorial is located at the main entrance to the mall and is comprised of three main elements: the Garden of Contemplation, the Court of Reflection and the Water Feature plinth housing the Promise of Youth sculpture. Designed by HGA, this place of reflection and contemplation is the first to honor the valor of individual veterans on the Capitol Mall.

Lehigh University’s New Health Science Technology Building (HST) is a flexible new research facility that will advance academic discoveries to improve human health. Prominently located at the northeast corner of the University’s historic Asa Packer campus, the HST is the administrative home for the new College of Health. The sustainably designed facility will provide a modern environment for research into public health and support chemistry, materials science, and biological science. Opened in early 2022, the HST is the largest building Lehigh has ever built and is designed to encourage collaboration among faculty and students across disciplines.

Mass General Brigham hosted a ribbon cutting event to celebrate the opening of a New Integrated Care Center. HGA developed a holistic furniture design focused on sustainability and a sophisticated aesthetic for their flagship, 62,000 SF, three-story Healthcare Center located at Tuscan Village in Salem, New Hampshire. The facility supports MGB’s commitment to providing access to world-class healthcare and offering their patients primary care and specialty treatments in convenient locations. HGA also worked with MGB on programming, mock-ups both in person and virtual, with the goal of enhanced operational workflow in support of bringing the patient to the center of care.

Department of Theatre and Dance – Fredericksburg, Virginia
University of Mary Washington has partnered with HGA and Commonwealth Architects in the design of a new 300-seat theater and 150-seat studio and a renovation of the existing fine arts building. The new home for the Department of Theatre and Dance will also include dressing rooms and back of house support, study spaces and lounges, and a centrally located administrative area and box office.
