Event: 24th Annual Lean Construction Institute Congress

Three members of the HGA team are presenting at the 24th Annual Lean Construction Institute (LCI) Congress in New Orleans, LA from October 19-21 — Deepa Balgi, Megan Zak, and Kyle Weisman.

The Debate of Value of Design in a Lean World

The team of expert panelists will bring a diverse perspective to the debate about the value of design in a Lean world. What will everyone consider success at the end of a project? Cost will always be there, but if we give that one thing all our attention it will be a miss. The conversation of design, integration, collaboration, efficiency, and effectiveness needs to move beyond an elevator pitch. Their experiences with the right ingredients but the wrong recipe, and the right ingredients with an award-winning outcome will provide insight into where we go from here to truly move the needle.

Panelists: Deepa Balgi (HGA), Anthony Montalto (HKS), Andrea Sponsel (HKS), Nolan Rome (WSP USA), Jennifer Storey (Stantec)

Date and Time: October 19, 2022 — 11:45am – 12:30pm CST

Sharpening the Axe – Taking the Time to Train for Project Success

This presentation is a case study of the Advocate Aurora Fond du Lac Hospital expansion project that demonstrated how proactive lean training instilled a culture of trust, empowered a team to challenge, innovate and pivot, and elevated communication and accountability for a superior IPD experience. Specific takeaways for attendees include: a clear understanding of the value training plays in developing collaborative, high-performing lean project teams; best practices in understanding team lean competency; work steps in applying a lean training plan to projects; and examples of lessons learned and training plans that can be applied to projects.

Panelists: Megan Zak (HGA), Tony Coraggio (Boldt), Annie Sit (Cannon Design), Sean Graystone (Fluor), Tony Steege (Advocate Aurora Health)

Date and Time: October 20, 2022 — 11:45am – 12:30pm CST

Moving the Modular Needle: Hyper Collaboration with Owners/AHJ’s as Integrated Team Members

Looking to reduce time to market and construction costs, Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) looked to trusted partners to advance their aggressive modular construction goals. The team jumped to action, working virtually, to answer the call. Learn how this collaborative team, through the use of lean tools has moved the needle from simple prefabricated elements to volumetric modular field installations. By embracing innovation, gaining stakeholder commitment, and implementing Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), the team surpassed modular and schedule goals on this hospital expansion while maintaining design standards and achieving sustainability and budget goals. Hear about building the right team of partners who share the same lean principals, a common vision, implementing the right success metrics, obtaining buy-in from key stakeholders and how a healthcare crisis accelerated the process.

Panelists: Kyle Weisman (HGA), Karen McKenzie (Advocate Aurora Health), Jenny S. Han (The Boldt Co), Scot Lauwasser (The Boldt Co)

Date and Time: October 20, 2022 — 2:30pm – 3:15pm CST
