A Taste of Mexico City

After the success of their modern Mexican restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, Common Plate Hospitality Group, decided to look at adding another location in the Mosaic District, an urban shopping center in Fairfax. This modern restaurant took over a space that was previously an oyster bar. The client wanted the restaurant to feel similar to Urbano 116 while also having its own unique features.

To create an indoor/outdoor environment, a large hydraulic window was added to the exterior, a favorite feature from Urbano 116. The interior design features an ornamental gypsum masonry wall that greets visitors, and separates the entry from the bar. New lighting provides for a welcoming ambiance, and a mural of Frida Kahlo by Matt McMullen and a bespoke cactus sculpture serve as vibrant statement art pieces.
