HGA experts will speak at two sessions at the virtual Healthcare Design Expo & Conference. A team from HGA will also present during the Breaking Through Awards. They were selected as one of four Finalists in the Award program. Learn more about the sessions and award presentation below.
Program: Designing for Medical/Behavioral Health Comorbidity: The Inclusive Inpatient Room

As the number of patients with comorbid behavioral health and medical conditions increase, there’s a need to create a new room type. This presentation highlights the next generation of universal/inclusive inpatient room design to safely accommodate this unique and growing, population. A literature search was conducted to understand evidence-based design concepts. A design charrette was held to review how the social, psychological, and spiritual needs of this patient type impact design. Critical needs were identified and ranked and design solutions were explored then tested in a virtual environment. See how integrated inpatient medical and psychiatric care will improve outcomes, address current patient populations, and develop new guidelines.
Program: It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: The Transformation of a Premier Cancer Program

Cedars-Sinai Cancer’s nationally ranked, integrated oncology program developed a neighborhood strategy to improve access and engage in a broader system of research and clinical trials throughout Los Angeles, improving access to a premier cancer program through five new clinics. The sixth simultaneous endeavor was to literally “elevate” holistic healing environments at the flagship cancer center by moving out of the basement of the main hospital and co-locating clinics and infusion services together on the 7th floor of the Advanced Sciences Health Pavilion. This session will share experiential, operational, and clinical benefits achieved by expanding the concept of “neighborhood” to the development of the floor plan.
Breaking Through Awards
Healthcare Design Magazine will host the final stage of their conceptual design competition, Breaking Through at the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference. During this keynote session, four finalist teams, including HGA’s Farm to Pharm team, will present the innovative concepts they developed to solve the challenges anticipated in future care delivery. Attendees will vote for their favorite, and the winning team will walk away with the grand prize of $10,000.
