Fostering Growth in STEM Education
HGA performed the programming effort through construction services for the Science Center. The project is envisioned as a signature building with a timeless design that will create a gateway at the south entry to campus.
As affirmed in the Santa Ana College Facilities Master Plan published in 2014, the new Science Center would provide space to consolidate and expand the biological sciences, chemistry and the physical sciences, previously housed in aged and inadequate space in Russell Hall. Demolition of three existing buildings were required to make room for the new facility.
The new 64,785-square-foot Science Center was made possible by Measure Q Bond Funds and serves as a home to the college’s science programs, including astronomy, earth science, geology, physics, chemistry and biology. The project provides modern and functional classrooms and laboratories supported by efficient infrastructure and technology.
This building also includes the Science Learning Center, which is equipped with computers, microscopes and labs where students can receive one-on-one assistance from faculty as well as conduct independent/group study and research. The building contains several open spaces and areas for s tudents and faculty to collaborate. The three-story building features 15 laboratories and four large classrooms.
