Memory Village

It Takes a Village

Memory Village will create an accessible, secure, village-like environment, which emphasizes family connection and homelike spaces for those with Alzheimer’s. The Village will aid in the reduction of residents’ anxiety and memory-loss challenges, through using specifically-designed visual cues in a comfortable setting.

The village is planned to emulate a typical community. There are four different styles of apartments designed using various architectural elements, color, shapes and materials, which assists residents in recognizing their home. The windows for the bedrooms and within the corridor create a visual connection with the activities on the main street and in the apartments. This will prompt and encourage residents to participate in the various activities.

Residential Spaces are two levels, with seven residents in an apartment (five single and two double rooms, each with individual bath), for a total of eighteen apartments for 126 residents. There are four apartments specifically used for assisted living. Shared amenities within the apartment include living room, computers, activity area, kitchen, and laundry.
