North Central Care Campus

Embracing Healing

Sited on a beautiful campus along the Wisconsin River is a 197-resident care center, 60-bed behavioral health hospital, outpatient clinic and wellness center. This campus cares for those who have no other options due to life circumstances or the complexity of their medical condition.

The project leveraged our research team to assist us with time and motion studies, including quantification of staff to transport residents to shared areas. Extra steps meant that staff were spending their time transporting people and goods instead of spending quality time with residents creating human connections. Additionally, their operational costs were outside of industry norms for even the lowest-performing campus due to design of their existing campus.

We are in the process of implementing our improved process flow by adding a multi-story addition that will reduce the overall time transporting goods and services. We also moved to the household model creating 12 – 16-bed houses and decentralizing goods and services to “just in time” delivery models enabling staff to have more time to be proactive in caring for those they serve versus reactive to the next emergency. We are implementing a universal room that is designed for the complexities of those they serve with the goal of giving those they care for an improved quality of life.
