Best & Flanagan

Local Heritage And Art Focus Design Of New Space

Best & Flanagan relocated to a new office space and throughout the planning process the focus on the law firms’s local heritage was clear. The finish palette is inspired by the first early dusting of snow in Minnesota and employs light and airy, regionally sourced finish materials. The environment creates an elegant backdrop to Best & Flanagan’s extensive art collection that is also focused on regional artists, which was another fundamental component of the overall design.

Access to daylight, which soaks into the space through the windows and the glassy office fronts – contributes to the bright and airy feel of the new office. Thoughtful use of privacy film and acoustic insulation balance the transparency desired for daylight access with the confidentiality needed for a law practice. The new office represented significant changes for the firm, including reduced office sizes, more uniform office sizes, a large windowed cafe, and improved technology throughout.

Through space planning and focus on efficiency and ergonomics, Best & Flanagan was able to reduce office sizes and re-use many existing walls in their new space, significantly reducing construction costs. The addition of a larger café with expansive views of downtown Minneapolis creates a casual and inviting meeting space for impromptu conversations and time away from offices. Emphasis was placed on technology-rich conference rooms which vary in size and level of technology to meet the needs of clients, internal meetings and video conferencing.
