Boston College - Burch Lab
Specialized Lab For Specialized Research
The Burch Lab, known as LASE (Laboratory for Assembly & Spectroscopy of Emergence) is a 2,000 SF facility located within Higgins Hall and includes sample preparation, an optics lab, and open ballroom.
Samples are developed through mask-less lithography and deposition within a controlled glovebox environment. Once created, measurements are taken through tip enhanced Raman spectroscopy in the environmentally controlled optics lab and verified through multiple microscopes housed in the lab’s several dilution refrigerators. Professor Burch’s research focuses on proximity effect through induced superconductivity and topological insulators, 2D magnetic materials, topotronics, and biochemical sensing.
