Melrose Expansion & Renovation

Right-Sized

CentraCare Health System – Melrose engaged HGA to assist with a Site and Facilities Master Plan, building upon past cursory studies prepared by HGA.

The Assessment Phase began with an analysis of the Melrose Patient Service Area (primary and secondary) by Health Planning & Management Resources, to assess the hospital’s service area, projected patient volumes, and programming considerations. Careful consideration was given to understand the impact on the nearby inpatient and outpatient facilities. HGA provided a functional assessment of the existing site and facilities through personal tours of the patient care areas, on-line staff surveys, coupled with interviews of key department managers and facilities staff.

The HGA team then executed the master plan, with a new Emergency Department addition, and other renovations to connect all services together. There was a universal room platform used between the imaging departments and the Emergency Department, to account for flexibility between days and times of day as needed.

This project was completed at the same time as another CentraCare project, Long Prairie’s Replacement Hospital. Together, the teams worked to establish standards within both campuses that tied back into the system, but also allowed both cultures of the communities to shine.

Major goals for the Melrose project included:

  • Right-sized patient rooms, achieving industry standards
  • Programs that achieve the type of patient-centered care Melrose desires moving forward
  • Emergency Department will provide more flexible space with improved patient visualization
  • Close adjacencies of key departments to allow for an efficient work flow while being able to maintain patient privacy
