North Office Building

Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

Overview

Target Corporation's new Northern Campus is quietly transforming the company's operations environment. The new campus is programmed to include office space, training and conference facilities, a printing facility, a full complement of service-oriented amenities, and a data center.

Phase 1 is a 310,000-square-foot "flagship" office building that establishes the tone for the entire campus. Exterior metal panels, brick and glass evoke a clean and efficient image. Inside, large floor plates and an open office plan emphasize flexibility. The commons area includes a cafeteria, convenience store, mail/copy center, credit union, one-hour photo and ATMs. Supported by surface and structured parking, the program allows for 1.3 million square feet of expansion in 100,000 and 200,000 square foot increments.

The campus is a 40-acre sculptural oasis of trails, wetlands and gardens with a variety of active and passive outdoor experiences. At the center of the campus, a large dining plaza floats above a circular reflecting pond, punctuated with 14 limestone megaliths. A bosque of Honey Locust trees shade the dining plaza, which accommodates a variety of activities, from early-morning Tai Chi to large corporate events. The pond offers seasonal interest with a sculpted basin of crushed rock, adding color and interest when the water is drained each winter.
