Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center

Sioux Center, Iowa

Overview

Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center realizes the client's vision for an efficient critical access hospital. The 122,000-square-foot health center includes a 17-bed inpatient hospital, emergency department, OR, physical therapy, primary care clinic, and four specialty clinics for orthopedics, cardiology, dermatology, and neurology.

The two-level plan maximizes workflow adjacencies, with the main clinical functions on the street level, and outpatient physical therapy, conference center, cafeteria, outdoor dining, and dedicated parking on the lower level.

Common spaces--from registration and lounges to gift shop and chapel--are grouped within a centrally located Town Center, from which all programming radiates. The laboratory is next to outpatient clinics at one end of the plan to streamline patient flow from exam room to lab, while ED, imaging and surgery are adjacent to each other on the other end of the plan. Likewise, specialty clinics are adjacent to surgery to address efficient patient/caregiver flow, while ED, birthing and patient units flex back and forth.
