Mugar Omnitheater

Boston, Massachusetts

The 20,000-square-foot, 342-seat Mugar Omnitheater has become the primary attraction for education and entertainment at the Science Museum. The domed structure includes a hemispherical screen, in which viewers are surrounded by 70mm images that create the illusion being immersed in the visual and auditory screen action. All equipment-including slide projectors, film and lighting-is centrally controlled by a computerized system. Graeme Ferguson, former president of IMAX Systems, called the Omnitheater "the best example of an OMNIMAX theater in the United States."
