Overview

Replacing the existing Nursing Center in a renovated elementary school, the Virterbo University School of Nursing enables the school to increase enrollment by 25 percent to meet regional healthcare needs. The 68,777-square-foot building includes classrooms, laboratories, faculty offices, and Nursing Simulation Learning Center.

The building is divided into a five-story wing and a three-story perpendicular wing, connected by a glass atrium with lounges on each floor and second-level outdoor terrace. A healing garden within the building's L-shaped notch includes seasonal plantings, ornamental trees, evergreens, seating, sculpture and slate path.

The Simulation Center includes four state-of-the-art labs for critical care, medical/surgical, maternal/newborn care, and child health. Each lab includes an observation/debriefing room and control room monitored by faculty who simulate patient responses using electronic mannequins.
