Chestnut Hill Medical Office Building

Community-Focused Outpatient Care

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a world-class teaching hospital of Harvard University in Boston. To meet the increasing demand for outpatient satellite centers, BIDMC expanded to the West Metro community to ensure residents have convenient access to high-quality, comprehensive healthcare services.

Using Lean and interactive workshops, BIDMC key leadership worked with our design team using value stream mapping to study the current state of operations and develop an ideal future state model that would maximize throughput and provider efficiency. Design and planning also defined ideal adjacencies and accounted for potential long-term growth and peak demand times across scheduling to create flexibility across departments.
This process quickly developed a design that promotes a high-level customer experience within a facility that is right-sized to meet current and future demand.

The outpatient center includes primary and urgent care, 20 medical specialties (including OB/GYN and women’s health, sports medicine, and occupational/physical therapy), imaging, lab, spine center, acupuncture and massage, and surgical specialties (including oncology, breast clinic, colorectal, and podiatry).
