HGA Wins MN Medal of Honor Memorial Design Competition

HGA Architects and Engineers has won the design competition for the Minnesota Medal of Honor Memorial at the State Capitol Mall.

The Memorial will be located at the main entrance of the Mall, where an existing Promise of Youth reflecting pool and statue will be repurposed into the design. The Memorial will occupy an elevated location and make a meaningful connection to Minnesota's Medal of Honor recipients and adjacent war memorials and tributes, including The Minnesota Military Family Tribute designed by HGA.

The Memorial will provide personalized accounts of living Medal of Honor recipients to inspire the public about the sacrifices made to maintain our peace, freedoms, and way of life. Through landscaping elements, plantings and spatial experiences, the Memorial will present a series of "living histories" that encourage visitors to consider each concept from their own perspective.

HGA was selected by a jury of Design Professionals, Veterans, Legislators and Medal of Honor Memorial committee members, appointed by the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board. Groundbreaking is October 3, in conjunction with the 2016 Medal of Honor Convention.
