Mercy Health Muskegon (MI) has announced plans to transform its existing hospital into a leaner, more modern medical center.

The medical center features a new nine-story, 340,000 square-foot bed tower, 267 inpatient beds, new diagnostic and treatment, new emergency department, new interventional platform, and renovation of the existing facility. Lean planning strategies includes a consolidated single-campus location for all hospital services, single-occupancy rooms with family space, strategic location of surgery and emergency departments for trauma and critical patients, and closer placement of medicines and supplies to the patient rooms.

"We have created a care model that truly brings healthcare services to the patient, rather than making the patient work to navigate through the care process," said Jeff Alexander, Vice President of Strategic Integration and Subsidiary Operations at Mercy Health.

Construction will begin in September 2016, with completion scheduled for June 2019.
