Columbia Heights Library Creates Community Destination

The new Columbia Heights Library, designed by HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA), creates a community destination and urban focal point in downtown Columbia Heights, Minnesota.

Prominently located on Central Avenue NE, the single-story library reinforces the urban streetscape that includes low-rise commercial buildings, a midrise office building, and the historic Heights Theater. The program includes separate adult, teen and children's areas, an 80-seat community meeting room with after-hour access, 22 computer stations, and clustered seating for quiet reading.

"Columbia Heights is a place that truly embraces diversity," said Library Director Renee Dougherty. "This is a lifelong learning space that offers different things to different ages. The Central Avenue location serves as a community beacon and catalyst for future development. The library is an important part of the city's long-term vision for a growing, vibrant downtown."
