The Recovery Wheels, along with other design and infrastructure measures, have resulted in a 42 percent reduction of the total annual energy consumption of the building; 42.8 percent savings in annual energy cost; 39 percent savings in annual chilled water use; 39 percent savings in annual heating consumption; 31 percent savings in annual electricity consumption; 45 percent reduction to peak cooling load; 71 percent reduction to peak heating load; and 18 percent reduction to peak electrical power required.

The Daikin McQuay Applied Development Center is a 46,600-square-foot, state-of-the-art research-and-development facility for high-efficiency heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) technologies. The development center includes six test cells, which can simulate building, electrical and climate conditions of any location globally. Recognizing that more than 90 percent of the building's energy usage is related to process loads (hot and cold water for chiller and compressor tests), HGA integrated a unique energy recovery system into various chiller test systems to recover approximately 75 percent of the process energy.
