Maple Grove, Minnesota
Overview
Located on the eastern shore of West Arbor Lake, this band shell is the centerpiece of a new performance-focused Town Green. Structurally, the band shell's sweeping canopy has multiple associations-an abstracted grove of trees, the lightsome and curved shape of maple seedpods, and even clouds. The 105-foot-wide concrete canopy rests atop six narrow concrete columns as it gently arcs toward the sky in an acoustically formed shape. Building materials relate to the geology of the site with earthen-colored concrete and exposed aggregate indigenous to the area.
