North Minneapolis: Planning for Recovery

Urban Design and Planning

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

In the wake of a devastating tornado that leveled parts of culturally diverse North Minneapolis on May 22, 2011, the City of Minneapolis coordinated disaster-relief funds with existing planning initiatives. HGA Landscape Architecture facilitated this effort by preparing a communication tool that integrates existing neighborhood plans and visualizes projects at locations critical to the neighborhood's recovery and economic development. Identifying three sites for future development, this preliminary analysis provides the City with a vision to implement change and a framework for the recovery, future growth, and vitality in North Minneapolis.

The work was very easy to comprehend. [This is a] great tool to show quickly how [the] city should proceed with recovery, while also advancing previous planning recommendations.
