Green Roof and Education Center

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Overview

Replacing an existing aging roof on the Central Library annex, the 30,000 square-foot green roof serves as an educational destination in renewable energy. The landscaping includes an Inverted Roof Membrane Assembly (IR MA) with semi-intensive monolithic planting system, a series of pathways, observation deck, storm-water collection system, and 30 kilowatt photovoltaic array that generates energy for the library. Electronic monitors track roof temperature and storm-water run-off data, which are displayed on kiosks in the 1st floor Education Center.
