Milltown Public Library

Milltown, Wisconsin

Overview

The 12,000 SF, one-story Milltown Public Library in a renovated downtown commercial building establishes a civic focus that enhances existing functions while offering new community-wide programming. The library doubles the current facility and accommodates growth over the next 20 years. The community-focused design process began by listening to the dreams and vision of the community.

The design team conducted a facility analysis of the existing building to identify operational efficiencies, growth areas, sustainable goals, and cost control. The design welcomes users with a prominent entrance and warm wood trim, painted block, wrap-around trellis, and outdoor program area adjacent to a park. Interior planning is organized around a "Main Street" spine that connects the primary collection areas and allows ease of circulation and wayfinding.
