Wadsworth Hall Renovation

Houghton, Michigan

Overview

Wadsworth Hall is a 50-year-old dormitory housing 1,200 students, more than 50 percent of MTU's on-campus population. Although built with integrity, Wadsworth Hall no longer met student needs. Prior to committing to a full renovation of Wadsworth Hall, MTU asked HGA to study replacement with a new facility that would house 1,050 students in a combination of traditional two-bed dormitory-style rooms, as well as suite and apartment-style rooms. The new high-rise building would also include dining services incorporating "scatter" style or Marche food preparation and delivery concepts, a student Café, weight and fitness areas, game rooms, classrooms, offices, conference and meeting room facilities and guest suites. As a result of the study, MTU determined that renovating Wadsworth Hall was the best course of action.
