General Mitchell International Airport

Redundant Electrical Service

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

HGA engineered a new redundant main electric service system to power the electrical substations at General Mitchell International Airport to solve reliability issue with the electric power and distribution system. To ensure successful implementation, the team established a location on the airport grounds that would separate the two WE Energies services without passing through a single point of failure. The team then identified the electrical distribution systems and components that addressed GMIA needs and expectations for total redundancy to all the existing and future medium-voltage substations. The new system feeds all the existing substations and provides manholes at strategic locations for future expansion under the GMIA 20-year program.
