HGA

Part of Butler's multiphase, long-term plans to expand and upgrade its healthcare services throughout the region, this Bed Tower expansion and renovation integrates state-of-the-art medical technology into an efficiently designed addition that promotes optimal patient outcomes. The 233,750-square-foot, 95-bed expansion includes expanded Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit, Medical/Surgical suite, eight Operating Rooms, and Knowledge Center with 150-seat lecture hall. Connected to the existing hospital, the brick Bed Tower includes a glass vestibule that serves as the new main entrance. The use of natural light, private patient and family spaces, and separation of public spaces from "backstage" spaces contribute to a healing environment.

Engineering

HGA provided complete MEP services to ensure seamless building integration, including structural engineering that supports the architecture.

To meet energy needs of the addition and existing facility, HGA did a complete infrastructure analysis of the MEP system, which consisted of a central high-pressure steam boiler plant and distributed chilled water and emergency generators. The team proposed four options, ultimately developing a hybrid solution that delivers optimal, energy-efficient control throughout the complex while remaining flexible for future growth.
