Overview

701 Washington Avenue

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Overview

For its own offices, HGA converted this former biscuit factory into a 140,000-square-foot workspace on seven floors in Minneapolis's warehouse district. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building combines historic charm with modern amenities, open work stations that encourage collaboration, and flexible floor plans to accommodate growth. Open stairs interconnect several floors, further encouraging interaction between departments. An adjacent one-story annex built as a loading dock in the 1940s now serves as a gallery, research library and employee commons. Large industrial windows throughout capitalize on natural daylight. A new high-efficiency mechanical system exceeds energy codes.
