General Mitchell International Airport - Redundant Electrical Service

Creating New Systems for Reliability through Redundancy

To solve a reliability issue with the electric power and distribution system, HGA engineered a new redundant main electric service system to power the electrical substations at General Mitchell International Airport. To ensure successful implementation, the team established a location on the airport grounds that would separate the two energy services without passing through a single point of failure. Electrical distribution systems were identified as well as components that addressed General Mitchell International Airport (GMIA) needs and expectations for total redundancy to all the existing and future medium-voltage substations. The new system feeds all the existing substations and provides manholes at strategic locations for future expansion under the GMIA 20-year program.
