Student Housing Renovation

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Overview

In collaboration with Blue Ribbon Management LLC, HGA transformed a 250,000 SF former Pabst bottling building into housing for international college students. The historic building, restored to its World War I-era appearance, features 150 apartments with two to four bedrooms for students at Milwaukee-area universities, as well as an extended-stay hotel for guests, including visiting professors and parents. Additional components include classrooms, a fitness center and a publicly accessible food court.

The project team created a design that honors the historic architecture of the building while creating a functional space plan. Two large atriums serve as prominent gathering spaces, providing substantial daylight via restored skylights. Significant attention was paid to restoring the building’s original materials including the brick walls, wooden support structures, and windows.
