At Innovation Campus
Echelon Apartments is comprised of 188 luxury apartment homes in six three-story buildings, totaling 293,500 SF near the historic remnants of the Milwaukee County School of Agriculture and Domestic Economy.
The unique challenge of the Echelon project was the existence of four dilapidated historic buildings that the community wanted to preserve. These challenges were overcome by carefully restoring the most important of the four historic buildings, demolishing two of the buildings down into walled garden “ruins” that preserved their historic arched entrances as garden gates, and offering a smaller, well-preserved building for sale as a private house.
The final design incorporates aspects from the school, including the original administration building restored as a leasing office, fitness center, community room and theater room for residents of the development. The design of the new apartment buildings echoes the architectural style of the historic buildings, featuring brick walls with the steep-pitched roofs of the Tudor Revival.
