Derby Line Land Port of Entry

Derby Line, Vermont

Overview

Situated on Interstate 91 at near the Canadian border, this land port of entry provides welcoming experience for those entering the United States while providing state-ofthe art screening and security systems. The building form creates a gateway image and the materials recall the granite stone quarries and woodlands of northern Vermont. Highly efficient energy systems utilize variable refrigerant flow technology and a large photovoltaic array.

The new Derby Line I-91 Land Port of Entry replaces an undersized Commercial Inspection Building and an outdated and inefficient Main Port Building with an up-to-date and expanded facility able to support current inspection operations. The facility synthesizes Customs and Border Protection operations; GSA energy reduction goals, The Guiding Principles for Federal Architecture, and project-specific objectives. Inspired by Vermont’s natural resources, vernacular architecture, and the celebration of threshold, the resulting Port is a modern and poetic building that serves to safely and efficiently welcome visitors to the United States.
