HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has won an Award of Honor for the American River College Fine Arts Expansion in Sacramento, Calif., in the 2010 Professional Design Awards program, sponsored by the Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) in conjunction with the California Community College Chancellor's Office. The project was cited in the "Growth" category.

"The Fine Arts Expansion gives students an opportunity to learn and enjoy all aspects of the performing arts-in a setting that reflects today's technical and acoustical standards," said John Justus, AIA, vice president and principal with HGA in Sacramento. "This project helps establish a new image for the performing arts on campus and the surrounding community. The award is an honor that recognizes the positive influence well-planned architecture has on the educational experience."

Housing the growing theater and music departments, 54,000-square-foot, two-phase Fine Arts Expansion includes a renovated 360-seat theater with a new fly tower and orchestra pit, band room, choral/recital room, lobby, Studio Theater, costume shop, scene shop, recording studio, box office, technical labs, acting labs, support spaces, and mechanical/electrical upgrades.
